Dear
Beryl,
The
GFAA Board has been hard at work this spring and
summer and as a result we have some great news
for you!
GFAA, in partnership with the
Arts Association of Alachua County and other
supporting groups such as YOPP, Inc., Society
Promotions, The After School Art Club and the
Cultural Arts Coalition has joined together in a
common project to unite artists and arts
organizations and enable them to become
successful by providing affordable access to
space, equipment and expertise. The liason
for the coordination of this group effort is our
own GFAA President, Chuck Sapp. The
Center's official name as specified by the
estate of its visionary founder, Doris Bardon,
is the Doris Bardon Community Cultural Center
but will commonly be referred to as The DORIS.
The mission of the center will be to
create a unifying force for the arts by
providing a place where artist and arts
organizations meet to network, learn and
present, where inspiration, collaboration and
education will help develop future artists as
well as future audiences. As an invaluable
resource for the community,The DORIS will be
open to all for performances, exhibitions,
meetings and educational programs.
The
physical location of the Doris Bardon Community
Cultural Center is 716 N Main Street,
Gainesville FL 32601 and is a 5,000sq. ft.
space. Projects are now underway and
committees formed to finalize the Business Plan,
Policy and Procedures, Membership Levels,
Volunteer Programs, Staffing/Resident Artist
Requirements, Programs, and PR and marketing
projects
