Benefits of Membership

Membership Meetings

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from September through May. Meetings last from 7-9 p.m. and feature a guest lecturer, a short business meeting and a Mini-Show.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions are judged, have awards and typically last a few months. We currently have three shows: the Summer Members’ Show, the Winter Members’ Show and an Invitational Juried/Judged Show.

Mini-shows occur at membership meetings and provide another opportunity to show your work. Members vote for their favorite entries, and small awards are given at the end of the meeting.

Festivals are usually 2-day events where artists display multiple pieces of artwork for sale in booths. Like our shows, they are judged and have awards. We currently have the following two: the Art Festival at Thornebrook and the Westside Fine Arts Fair at Tioga.

Juried Exhibits are events for exhibition purposes only. Selection committees determine which artists from the pool of applicants will be invited to exhibit their work. Depending on the venue, sales may or may not be encouraged. We currently have two juried exhibits: GFAA Florida Artists and the Gallery at Oak Hammock.

Non-Juried Exhibits are also for exhibition purposes only, and there is no selection process. All GFAA members are eligible to exhibit a piece as long as they meet the criteria. We currently have the following five non-juried exhibits: the GFAA Exhibits at the Thomas Center, Trinity Church, the Alachua County Libraries, the SCORE office and the Central Park Medical Plaza.

There are non-GFAA Exhibit Locations where members often coordinate exhibits at various locations throughout Gainesville that are not managed by GFAA. Check our web site for a list on the Opportunities page.

This Web Site is the primary source of GFAA information. Current GFAA news and activities, plus a link to the most current GFAA E-Newsletter are available online.

The GFAA E-Newsletter is published twice a month (except for July/August) and emailed to members. It includes upcoming events and news about the monthly membership meetings.

The Plein Air Painters is a special interest group for GFAA members which meets at various outdoor locations on the second Saturday of the month from September through June. Link to photos.

Workshops are taught by nationally known artists and are sponsored throughout the year. GFAA members pay a reduced fee.

Our Membership Socials are opportunities to meet other members, network and enjoy one another’s company. They include Show and Exhibit Opening Receptions and two Member Socials: one in May or June, and one in December to celebrate the holidays. Link to photos.

Canvassing the Area provides information on merchants who support local artists, gives discounts and a place to bring your artwork to sell.

Member Spotlight offers free publicity for your artwork and help you get your name known to other GFAA members.
